The late medieval doublet with puffs is a very characteristic 15th and 16th centuries male costume, worn by both civilians and combatants. It is very similar to the late doublet, but has distinctive shoulder ornaments. This version ends in the hip area and, like its prototype, has holes sewn with threads in the vest. It is laced with 5 braided strings. Thanks to the mentioned before holes, you can attach to it late hoses or joined hose.

The doublet is very well suited to the male figure, it emphasizes its qualities. Additional puffs on the shoulders make this costume look more effective, does not hinder movement and will be perfect for a late medieval archer.

Doublets with puffed sleeves are sewn from wool and linen, depending on individual needs and preferences. They are available in two standards:
SMLR1569 handmade/linen
SMLS1570 mixed/linen
SMWR1571 handmade/wool
SMWR1572 mixed/wool
Each version has a linen lining.

Here you will find an option without puffed sleeves.

Doublet with puffs as an example of a late medieval men's universal costume

On the pages of manuscripts from the 15th and 16th centuries, you can find numerous representations of puffy doublets, both in civilian and combat versions. In the late medieval Le Mirouer historial, you can find suitable patterns on almost every page. Another example of this type of doublet is the one worn by men in Jean Froissart's Chroniques from the 15th century.

Doublets probably originate from a part of military garments. Doublets appeared in the middle of the 14th century. A doublet was worn under outer garments, although in some situations (like war campaign or work) it could be worn without outer garments. The cut of a doublet was well-fitted to the body. One of its basic functions was to hold the separate hose.
