Burgundian dress is a type of loose court outer gown with fitted sleeves which overlap palms of a wearer. Our interpretation of Burgundian dress has a deep V-shape neckline rounded on the back. This medieval gown is fastened with a belt just below the bust.

In the standard version, our Burgundian gown is made of wool. It has a train, but it does not have a lining. On the neckline, on sleeves and on the bottom edge of this Burgundian dress you can notice a wool trim in contrastive color.

Burgundian dress in the medieval period

Burgundian gown is typical for the 15th century. This type of dress has evolved from a loose-fitting houppelande. Usually this type of clothing is worn over the top of a kirtle and a chemise, creating a multi-layer set.

Burgundian dresses can be found on numerous works of art, like A Portrait of a Lady by Rogier Van der Weyden or The Hours of Mary of Burgundy.
