Oval headkerchiefs are presented on women wearing diadems or other headgear. It falls loosely on the back and slightly covers the sides of the face, like in Les Tres Riches Heures de Metz from 1300 - 1310 r. or Codex Manesse from 1305 - 1340 r.

How to wear a medieval veil?

In the attached pictures you can see how our medieval veil is attached to a linen band in the form of a fillet. To attach a medieval veil to a fillet you can use silver pins available in our webshop.

What are the types of medieval headwear?

Similarly to the outer garment, headwears speaks of the social status and in case of women of their marital status. In medieval iconography hardly ever can we find figures without any head wear. During all the period of the Middle Ages a hood was the most widespread head wear. Its functions were protective and sometimes symbolic, ritual or representative. Medieval headwear includes: caps, hats, coifs, hoods, kerchiefs and others. Hoods were often made of cloth, however caps and hats were made of felt.
