Machine-made standard

Medieval gambeson Rehoboam is a type of armor padding inspired by 14th century French sources. This gambeson is a perfect choice for anyone looking for aketon for medieval reenactment.
Rehoboam armor padding is sewn using high quality fabrics. Its outer layer is linen and it also has a linen lining.
This model of armor padding has a few types of stitchings. Curved stitchings are placed on the upper part of the chest section. From the waist below, they are horizontal. Upper part of sleeves has horizontal stitchings, and forearms - vertical ones.
Rehoboam gambeson does not have a collar. It is closed in an overcast lacing method with one long, hand-plaited, linen string finished with an aiglet.
Our armor padding has a cotton-polyester stuffing with two levels of thickness.

The source for Rehoboam armor padding
Examples of this armor padding can be found on pages of a medieval Bible manuscript from the 14th century. It was created by Jan de Mandeville. One of the pages presents a scene with King Solomon teaching his son about justice, Rehoboam. This medieval manuscript is stored in J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.

Rehoboam is a biblical character. He was a son of Solomon and grandson of King David. During the reign of Rehoboam, the kingdom of Israel divided into the Northern Kingdom (Israel) and Southern Kingdom (Judah).
The upgrading of SPES gambesons design
Currently, we are working on implementing to our assortment the upgraded versions of our well-known gambesons. Changes include:
- improving the functionality and mobility of our aketons
- layers’ thickness (check the chart with levels of amortization)
- directions and shape of stitchings
- minor changes in cut (for better fitting)
- and most of all, matching the gambesons to our six-levels size set: XS-XXL (NOTE: you can still order a custom-sized gambeson)
