This medieval coin bag is made of natural, plant tanned leather of 2 mm thickness. The leather pouch has a front flap and a buckle. This handy medieval purse can be attached to a belt.

Origin of medieval money sac

The oldest known money sac was found with Ötzi, the „ice man”. In medieval and renaissance times, coin bags in similar shape to ours were often richly encrusted to emphasize their owners’ social status.

An example of this medieval coin bag can be found in „Book of Hours” from Poitiers, 1415. Currently the manuscript is kept in The Morgan Library & Museum in New York.
