Arming%20Garments

Arming garments were necessary elements of armor for knight fighting. Medieval gambesons provided hit amortization, protection against attrition from the armor and the possibility of attaching various armor parts to them. Sometimes a gambeson was the only protection for poorer men-at-arms worn during knight fights.

Apart from the protective value of the arming garments, they could play representative and identification roles for knights. The fabric structure of the padded armor depends highly on its purpose. For example, it is most probable that archers wore thick and sturdy gambesons to be protected from arrow hits while knights often used softer and thinner padded protection under steel armor or chainmail, only to avoid bruises and abrasions during knight fights.

Among arming garments we can enumerate: a gambeson, a padded hose, a padded coif, a padded hood, padded gloves, a wappenrock, a cotte d'armes, an aketon. These elements make a perfect set under armor for knight fighting.

Click on this picture to see different options of padding available in our shop:

If you decide to change the padding, please write the CODE of chosen padding (Y1-Y13) in the "additional information" box in one of the next steps of ordering.
