How to choose a medieval belt for your clothing?
You probably should start with a suspender belt. It is a special, wide medieval belt made of linen. It has numerous openings (depending on its length) to tie and keep up a pair of hose. Suspender belt (alternatively a doublet, or proper braies) is an essential element of clothing for men, who've chosen this type of leg garment.
A middle-class representative can choose a simple, plain medieval belt. For higher classes we have a range of historical belts with ornaments and embossing. Buckles of these medieval belts are based on historical sources, mostly from England, just like embossing. Hardware fittings, however, are based on sources from Polish cities. Most of these medieval belts are available in a few colors - from natural, finishing on black.
Medieval belts and social status
Historical belts can be practical in everyday life. You can tie a sword, a dagger, a pouch, or a bag to it. Look of a medieval belt says a lot about its owner. This is why people were even buried wearing their belts after death. These worked as a reminder of social status and underlined it during a funeral.
Knights, because of high social status, should stand out with their medieval clothing. Of course, it also pertains to a belt. Proper model of a medieval belt was one of the items given to candidates during the accolade ceremony.
In SPES Medieval Market you will find unique, richly decorated knight belts. A wide, black leather medieval belt of Ludwig von Ottingen will surely catch an eye with its round mounts and buckle in trapezoid shape. Nürnberg knight's belt is a real treat, based on a local sculpture. It is made of leather with brass, engraved plates on whole length. A product for the most notable swordsman.
Medieval reenactors will surely appreciate our leather garters. These are sometimes essential when using pants, hose, or ladies' hose. Like all of our assortment, these were based on historical sources and made by the best craftsmen. Leather used in our medieval belts was plant-tanned.
